W książce zamieszczono referaty wygłoszone na konferencji przygotowanej przez Instytut Socjologii UAM. Układ prezentowanych prac odzwierciedla podział na sekcje tematyczne - Historia (zmiana), ideologia a wizualność miasta; Miasto jako tekst - metodologie i prezentacje; Potyczki i wojny o miasto; Sztuka publiczna i estetyczna. Do książki dołączona została płyta DVD, zawierająca prezentacje multimedialne, będące integralnym elementem wystąpień oraz fotoeseje, prezentacje i filmy stanowiące pełnoprawne wystąpienia konferencyjne.

Visuality of a City. Creation of City Iconosphere

Visuality of a City is a collection of reports delivered at a conference of the same title which took place in Poznan in 2005. The main subject of the lectures was iconosphere of contemporary cities, processes of its creation and destruction, historical transformations and political, artistic and economic activities taking place in that sphere. Authors of the papers included in this book have understood visual aspects of urban space in two ways: first as objectivisation of processes happening in modern cities; second, as one of the most important factors influencing changes. In both cases urban iconosphere was not only a very effective mean of analysing city spaces, but a common platform for reflection of scientists representing different specialisations (anthropology, geography, sociology, economy, history, urban planning etc).
